Encouraging Economic Development Through Harnessing Local Potential
When persons with disabilities are usually discussed it is in relation to them having suffered some horrid injustice or maybe they will be in dire need of aid. Very little literature exists that portrays them in a positive light except maybe when they are being objectived or portrayed as 'super heroes' for doing the most mundane of tasks.
At Thisability Hub we would like to tell real stories about real people with disabilities who are living their lives the best way they know how despite the adverse circumstances brought about by having to contend with their disabilities. Pictured below is one such individual, his name is Munyaradzi Museki.

Mr Museki is a man who makes great shoes for a living. Having become disabled as a result of certain circumstances in his adult life, Munyaradzi has not let that stop him from making a living. Despite living in rural Chikomba, Munyaradzi makes the most of local resources that are available to him. He recently set up a shoe factory in his backyard with virtually no machinery, electricity and staff to assist in production. This demonstrates the tenacity that is inherent in human nature.
Fortunately, for Munyaradzi he lives in Chikomba rural district which falls under the jurisdiction of Hon Felix T. Mhona who is the Member of Parliament for that area. Hon Mhona also happens to be the Patron and Champion of Thisabilty Hub. Through a joint initiative Hon Mhona and Thisability Hub are soon going to be rolling out sustainable development projects that will formulate enterprise development of persons with disabilities in rural Zimbabwe. In Munyaradzi's case for example, Thisability Hub will help him expand and formalize his business, thereby creating employment for others with disabilites in his area and ultimately contributing towards the National Gross Domestic Product.
We believe it's high time we encouraged persons with disabilities to become economically active.
